Vayigash:

L’ ilui Nishmas Avraham Zev ben Yaakov – Dr. Abe Chames

Chofetz Chaim on Parshas Vayigash

In this week's parshah, the pasuk states, "Vayomer Yosef el echav ani Yosef” And Yosef said to his brothers, “I am Yosef" (45:3). When the brothers initially went down to Mitzrayim to buy food, Yosef spoke harshly to them, alienating them. This led the brothers to ask many questions. "Why is all this happening to us?" they asked. When the brothers went down to Mitzrayim a second time the same thing occurred. They asked each other, "Why is Hashem doing this to us?" These questions remained with them until they heard two words from Yosef: "Ani Yosef." Upon hearing this, all of their questions were immediately answered and everything became clear. At first, the brothers were frustrated and confused that this "Egyptian prince" was treating them harshly, however, once Yosef revealed himself to them, they immediately understood the reasons for his behavior.

Similarly, when the world will hear the words, "Ani Hashem," all people's questions on G-d, how He runs the world and why certain things happen, will be answered immediately and everything will become clear. At that moment everyone will see that everything Hashem has done for us has been for our own good. Upon hearing these words, the cause-and-effect mask that characterizes this world will be removed and Hashem's true control and intention will be revealed. We will see how everything that happens in this world is directly from the Hand of Hashem.
Good Shabbos!
