Toldos:

L’ eloy Nishmas Avraham Zev ben Yaakov – Dr. Abe Chames

Chofetz Chaim on Parshas Toldos

In Parshas Toldos, the passuk states, “Vayach’peru avdei Yitzchak banachal vayimtze’u sham b’air mayim chaim- Yitzchak’s servants dug in the valley and found there a fresh well of water” (26:19). The incident of Yitzchak and the wells teaches us that someone should never stop doing something that he started; never quit or give-up. If Yitzchak would have dug a well, and discovered that there was no water at the bottom, he would move-on and dig in another area, and continue searching for water. If he found water, but there were people who fought over the land in which the well resided in, he would move-on and dig in another area. This is how Yitzchak acted constantly - he would continue digging until he found a well with water and no outside disputes.

The same should be with us regarding all of our physical and spiritual matters, whether in business or in learning Torah. When someone isn’t successful in his learning, or if he finds it difficult, he should not abandon it and give-up. This person must keep trying, because in the end he will always succeed. As the Chofetz Chaim says, a person who stumbles or makes mistakes at the beginning must never give up, because at the end he will find the truth and be successful.

Good Shabbos!
